HOW TO INTRODUCE IN INDONESIA

GREETING
(English-Indonesia)

• Good Morning!   :  Selamat Pagi!
• Good Afternoon! :  Selamat Siang! or Selamat Sore!
• Good Evening!    :  Selamat Malam! or Selamat Tidur! or Selamat Istirahat!
• What is your name? :  Siapa Namamu? or Namamu siapa? 
• Where do you live?  : Dimana kamu tinggal? or Kamu tinggal dimana?
• Can you speak English? : Bisakah kamu berbicara bahasa Inggris? or Kamu bisa bahasa Inggris?
• Where do you come from? : Kamu berasal dari mana?
• My name is ( your name ) : Namaku ____
• I'm ( your name ) : Aku ___
• I live in ( Location ) : Saya tinggal di ____
• See you : Sampai nanti or Sampai Jumpa 
• Goodbye : Selamat Tinggal or Selamat Jalan

Example :

Siti : "Hai, Selamat Pagi!" ( Hi, Good Morning! )

Budi : 'Hai, Selamat Pagi!"

Siti : "Namaku Siti Nurbaya. Siapa namamu?" ( My name is Siti Nurbaya. What is your name? )

Budi : "Aku Budi Anduk. Panggil saja Budi." ( I'm Budi Anduk. Call me Budi )

Siti : "OK. Senang mengenalmu, Budi!" ( Ok, nice to meet you, Budi! )

Budi : "Senang mengenalmu juga" ( Nice to meet you too )

Siti :   "Ngomong-ngomong, kamu tinggal dimana?" ( By the way, where do you live? )

Budi :  "Aku tinggal di Jakarta. Kalau kamu?" ( I live in Jakarta. And you? )

Siti : "Aku tinggal di Semarang." ( I live in Semarang )

Budi : "Baiklah, sampai jumpa Siti!" ( Ok, see you! )

Siti : "Sampai jumpa! ( See you! )



In Indonesia, "Assalamualaikum." often uses in daily activity. And we can answer "Waalaikumsalam!" because most of Indonesian are muslim. But they are not racist and appreciates each other. Before introducing yourself with someone, give your smile and shake hand with. Or if you visit their home, you must knock the door and say greeting.

INTRODUCING SOMEONE TO YOUR FRIEND

• Let me introduce my friend : Aku akan memperkenalkan temanku
• This is ( Name ) : Ini ___
• She is my sister  : Dia adalah saudaraku

EXAMPLE :

Alex : "Selamat Siang! Aku akan memperkenalkan seseorang. Namanya Sunny. ( Good Afternoon! Let me introduce someone. She is Sunny . )

Sunny : "Selamat siang. Perkenalkan, namaku Sunny. Senang bertemu kalian. ( Good Afternoon! Let me introduce myself. I'm Sunny, nice to meet you. )

Budi  : "Namaku Budi. Senang bertemu denganmu juga."

Alex : "Ini saudaraku. Dia cantik kan?" ( This is my sister. She is beautiful, right? )

Budi : "Ya, dia yang tercantik di seluruh muka bumi. ( Yeah, she is the most beautiful girl in the world )

Alex : "Hahaha, kamu bercanda? Kuharap kalian akan menjadi teman dekat." ( hahaha, are you kidding me? Hope you will be a close friend. )
